Artificial intelligence (AI) has a transformative impact on religion in at least three ways. First, AI is transforming religious institutions, movements, discourses, practices and actors. Second, AI applications and discourses challenge religiously and culturally shaped notions of what it means to be human. Third, AI discourses, practices and materialities are increasingly evolving into formations that resemble religion. The talk will give an overview of the first two areas and then focus on the third field of interaction between religion and AI.
