Head of project

Nicole Maria Bauer

Nicole M. Bauer has headed the FWF project "Gender and the Bible" since September 2023 and is Assistant Professor Religious Studies at the University of Graz. She studied Sociology and Religious Studies at the University of Graz and the University of Heidelberg. As part of her Habilitation, she is currently researching the institutionalization of exorcism in contemporary society and gender constructions in Christian discourses. Her current research interests include religious healing practices at the interface of psychotherapy and medicine, contemporary religiosity, Judaism and Christianity, Christian gender discourses and economy of religion.

J. Andrew Doole

J. Andrew Doole is Assistant Professor for New Testament at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He read Theology at the University of Oxford and completed a doctorate at the University of Marburg. His research focuses on historical and exegetical issues.

Elena Maria Scherer

Elena Maria Scherer is a member of the FWF project "Gender and the Bible" and is employed at the Institute of Religious Studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Graz. She studied European Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology as well as Religious Studies at the University of Graz. She is particularly interested in the general subject area of gender and religious studies.

Laura Athenstaedt

Laura Athenstaedt works as an assistant in the FWF project “Gender and the Bible” at the Institute for Religious Studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Graz. She also works at Graz University of Technology. She studied English and American studies as well as sociology, with her master's degree focusing particularly on the area of sociology of religion. In addition to the University of Graz, she also completed parts of her studies at Lancaster University (UK) and the University of Queensland (AU).

Chiara Schallhammer is a student assistant in the FWF project "Gender and the Bible" and works at the Institute of Religious Studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Graz. She is currently studying Catholic Theology at the University of Graz. At the beginning of her studies she discovered her great interest in the fields of religious studies and gender studies.

Lorenz Grießenauer

Lorenz Griessenauer is a student assistant in the project and currently studying at the University of Innsbruck for a Master’s degree to teach Religion and Mathematics. He is also the student assistant of the Head of the Department of Biblical Studies and Historical Theology at the University of Innsbruck and teaches at a secondary school.
